Dr Toktam Mahmoodi

Director of the Centre for Telecom Research

2018

Over the 4 years I had run the Centre, it has become an even more exciting hub of cutting-edge research and ground-breaking innovation. Underpinned by £m in public and private funding, we were able to pioneer 5G, immersive technologies, spatial sound and much more. I am particularly proud of the large industry participation we have achieved over past years; and the stream-lined impact operations I have introduced which saw us pioneer research but also contribute to standards and spin out exciting ventures.

Prof Mischa Dohler

Former Director of the Centre for Telecom Research

2014-2018

I am the Founder of the Centre and have been directing it for 20 years. We have been part of the global ecosystem which design and deployed 2G, then 3G and 4G, and now 5G. During my years as Director, the Centre has attracted £m in funding and has contributed to technologies which are now part of every single smart phone. I am also proud of all the students and engineers which we have trained over the years.
