Athena SWAN is a UK charter mark that recognises commitment to the advancement of gender equality in higher education and research. The Department of Informatics has been engaged with Athena SWAN since 2013. As part of the Faculty of Natural & Mathematical Sciences, we have held an Athena SWAN Bronze Award since September 2014, and in November 2017 we submitted an application for an Athena SWAN Bronze Award for the Department of Informatics. Prof Mischa Dohler made history in 2015! At that time, he was the Editor-in-Chief of Wiley's flagship transactions, the Transactions for Emerging Telecommunications Technologies. He ensured towards the end of his reign that the Editorial Board was composed of 50% female and 50% male Executive Editors. That made it the first technology journal globally which had a completely gender-balanced board. And the performance has rocketed ever since!
We pride ourselves with a great diversity in the Centre. There is a great neuro diversity, many wonderful cultures and importantly a strong gender balance. We are probably the telecoms Centre with more female researchers than any other centre around the world.
